ART

David Drenth mural (colored pencils on paper, 24”x20”), 2003. Using pencils from the prison commissary, Drenth’s brightly colored murals incorporate cubism and metaphoric realism. His work explores his own life (most of it spent behind bars), the judicial system, wildlife, nature, Native American ways and the evils of mankind.

David Drenth murals. These two pieces are very large, more than six feet long. The artist makes them with colored pencils in his small cell, working on a lapboard and letting the work unfold as if a scroll. His paper is roll ends salvaged from the prison laundry.
